This is the first unload week on the “5/3/1 Method.”
I feel pretty good.
Energy level overall is way up.
Not sure what it is, but it’s refreshing instead of feeling like I’m dragging a$$ all the time. Could be the training. Could be the new eating plan (more later). Could be the probiotics. Could be the stomach healing. Could be all of that. All I know is that it sure feels good.
Today’s training was very simple:
A. Military Press: 70lbs/5, 100lbs/5, 120lbs/5; rest–at will
B. KB Double Clean + Press: 2x32kg (1,2,3,4) 2; rest–60s
These were great. Hips were in position 90% of the time. This is how I know the gut is getting better. They felt very easy. Very smooth. (They should–they’re only 2x32kg’s…)
C. Chins, bodyweight only: (1,2,3,4,5) 2; rest ~60s. No problem. Able to touch sternum to bar for the 1st time in a very long time…Cool.
But here’s the thing: This unload week is going to be key for my progress. Not sure exactly how the next cycle will look, but it will be a combo of Oly work, “power-building” work, and KB work, with the focus again on building usable “Oly-strength” and “Oly-size.” I am pleased with how this cycle went so far. We’ll see how I feel at the beginning of next week when I ramp back up.
I’ve gotta double-check the numbers, but visually, muscularity is up and fat is down. Exactly what I wanted. Stress is under control for the first time in a long time. On the way back up–the key to progress.
