Results of Consistently Training With Kettlebell Exercises (cool video)

People often want to know what kind of results they’ll experience from incorporating kettlebell exercises into their workouts (or training programs as I like to call them).

Here’s a phenomenally cool video of my wife – after a week of the stomach flu – doing Pull-ups. But there’s a catch – which I’ll explain in a minute after a little background.

Now here’s the caveat – she was born an athlete.

I trained her in college and she was wicked strong and explosive as a Division 1 Volleyball player.

BUT, she took 10 years off from working out of almost any kind and didn’t start training consistently again until 2009 when she took it upon herself to train for (and pass) the RKC. (Which she did.)

Since mid-2009 until today, her workouts have routinely consisted of only bodyweight and kettlebell exercises.

Here’s the catch – you’ll have to watch the video below to see the catch – I think you’ll be surprised…

Cool, huh?

If that doesn’t inspire you to get out and set, chase, and achieve your physical goals, I’m not sure what will.

Please feel free to leave your comments and tell my wife how awesome she is!

Good stuff Geoff and congratulations again to you both!

Hope to catch up with you sometime. I’m now registered and in training for the RKC II in July. Come a long way since we had that plane flight back from St. Paul and I couldn’t walk to my car. 🙂

Your wife is TOTALLY awesome. I can hardly do a pull up strict now, and I’m definitely NOT pregnant. She rocks 🙂

    • GEOFFN Dec 4, 2010 @ 18:10

Yes she does, Amber. Keep going – you’ll get it.

  • Shannon Dec 3, 2010 @ 10:19

Wow. It’s really sad but I’m trying to work on push ups, nevermind pull ups. I need to get my butt kicked into gear!

    • GEOFFN Dec 4, 2010 @ 18:10

We all start from the same place, Shannon – the beginning. Keep going. You will do it.

She is great. It made me smile because of the sheer joy on her face.
Also loved to hear you say with concern “Just one” and she proceeds to do two and giggles. The miracle of life – fantastic.

    • GEOFFN Dec 4, 2010 @ 18:09

Yeah – love that smile. Thanks Michele.

  • Vito Graffagnino Dec 3, 2010 @ 12:08

Congratulations to the both of you…if you’re stuck for names Vito is pretty cool for a boy 😉

    • GEOFFN Dec 4, 2010 @ 18:08

Ha! Vito is a good name but don’t think it really goes with my German last name… 😉

    Geoff,

What do you think of biofeedback training? It is 180 degrees from what is used by most people and trainer’s out there. Basically it means that all written programs are a waste of time and possibly injurious. Also, MC has a lot of intelligent things to say on the RKC forum and while she is RKC-FMS certified it seems like she uses a lot more than Cook’s techniques when working with clients. Are there limitations to the FMS? Should I look elsewhere for techniques on assessment?

    • GEOFFN Dec 4, 2010 @ 18:08

I’m familiar with it Erik. Why don’t you email me and we can chat.

  • Sheena Cannon Dec 3, 2010 @ 13:02

Geoff— YOUR WIFE ROCKS!!! That was great. Did the baby come out swinging KBs???

    • GEOFFN Dec 4, 2010 @ 18:07

He hasn’t come out yet, Sheena – but he’s VERY active so we think we may have our hands full!

  • Steph Myers Dec 3, 2010 @ 13:18

  • Eric Moss Dec 3, 2010 @ 13:30

Geoff… what an awesome thing to share with us for inspiration? Courtney… that was awesome!! Geoff, you did say just one right? I’ll use the pullups for motivation, but I’ll “listen” to my coach and not do so much!!:). Thanks for the video Geoff, truly inspirational.

    • GEOFFN Dec 4, 2010 @ 18:05

      Thanks, Billy.

    Hey Court and Geoff,

    That’s really great–and you look so-o-o cute.
I agree with Michelle–I loved hearing Geoff say “just one” while you did two just for fun. Way to go…:)

  • Doug Dec 4, 2010 @ 17:56

    Awesomely inspirational!!!

A few of my students are very close to doing their own unassisted pull up. I’m posting this on our FB group to help inspire them. Be on the look out for their videos.

It just goes to show you what setting a goal, consistency, and knowing that “practice makes permanent” can do for you.

    • GEOFFN Dec 4, 2010 @ 18:04

Thanks, Doug. It’s always great to get your “first” on anything.

  • karen smith Dec 6, 2010 @ 14:56

    Geoff –
Courtney rocked that pull up! What an amazing motivator for all women pregnant or not.

Tell her how awesome she is.
    🙂

    • GEOFFN Dec 6, 2010 @ 16:10

      Thanks, Karen. I will.

  • Daniel Sullivan Dec 6, 2010 @ 15:55

    That was awesome!

My wife has struggled with weightgain and depression since our two beautiful kids were born.

I have show her this post and she was so fired up she busted out a dozen sets of two handed swings.

    Thanks for being so motivational.

    Dan

    • GEOFFN Dec 6, 2010 @ 16:10

Dan – tell you wife I said that she’s AWESOME, ok?

  • Jen M. Dec 7, 2010 @ 7:47

Your wife rocks and congrats on your soon to be new addition! I am 8 months pregnant…still working out with kettlebells (lots of crazy eyes from people) I have not touched a pull up in a long time….may give it a try today…thanks for the motivation! Also, I am looking forward to doing the kettlebell burn program after I am ready to exericse again. Thanks!

    • GEOFFN Dec 7, 2010 @ 20:16

Jen – you rock! I wouldn’t try that pull up if you haven’t been doing them consistently… Your abs probably won’t like it.
